Sensory Activity: Cornstarch Quicksand

Cornstarch quicksand is one of the easiest and most odd-feeling slimes you can mix for your children.  This fun stuff will make a mess, but is safe and inexpensive.  You will need:

  • 2 parts cornstarch
  • 1 part water
  • Koolaid packet or nontoxic paint powder (optional)

Stir together the cornstarch and coloring in a kid-safe bowl.  Slowly add the water, mixing with your hands until you get the consistency you want.  Use more or less as needed, but pay close attention to the consistency.  It will easily slide through your fingers and around your hands, but if you push your hand flat on top of it, it will not give.  It will dry out the more your child plays with it, so you’ll occasionally have to add more water.
