Home Safety Evaluations     Home - Health - Happiness

Comprehensive Therapy Center is ready to help family and caregivers with our Home Safety, Health and Happiness program which will assist individuals to maintain independence on their own.

Families usually want to help keep an extended family member in their own homes -and independent.  Families need to understand how to make the home safe from falling hazards and user friendly for the senior resident. Our therapists can help identity and eliminate hazards which might cause accidents and make simple suggestions that may enhance activities of daily living.

Occupational and Physical Therapists are able to make suggestions which might help parents avoid loss of independence within their own homes. It's a simple thing we can do ... a friendly visit at the home or apartment - an hour or so with the family group - and then a follow-up conference with written, easy to follow suggestions.

To schedule an appointment for our visit, please call
559-1054 in Grand Rapids or 820-0516 in Holland.

You Can Help Prevent Senior Falls

National Center for Injury Prevention and Control statistics show that 1 in 3 adults 65 years and older fall each year.  Among seniors, falls are the most common cause of injuries and hospital admissions for trauma.  By 2020, the cost of fall injuries is expected to reach $32.4 billion.  Once a senior has fallen they are 2 to 3 times more likely to fall again and the risk of falling increase with age.  Here are some simple suggestions to help prevent senior falls.

  1. Begin or continue a personal exercise program.
    To improve balance and coordination
    To increase strength

  2. Make you home safer.  Some simple common sense modifications include:
    Improve lighting
Remove tripping hazards like throw rugs
Install grab bars and non-slip mats in bathrooms

  3. Have you doctor review all your medications - prescriptions and non-prescription meds

  4. Have you vision checked EVERY year.
