March is Social Worker Month, April is Occupational Therapy Month, and May is Better Hearing and Speech Month. To celebrate, Comprehensive Therapy Center holds a coloring contest. The winners are students who receive social work, occupational therapy, and speech therapy in the sixteen area schools where we provide ancillary special education services.

This year’s subject, Cars, Trucks, & Things That Go, yielded some really stellar pictures from our students and we are proud to announce that we have picked our winners. They will be honored at our annual Read To Me Tea, on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 3:00pm — 4:30pm. At this lovely tea at the Women’s City Club of Grand Rapids, local celebrities will read books to the young artists.
It’s a chance to honor children who don’t normally receive awards, so it’s a very festive atmosphere. This year, we have 60 winners from local public charter schools. JoeAnne Peterson, a long-time teacher and debate coach at Grand Rapids City High who is helping organize the event, believes winning a contest can be an important moment for a child. “I think that the recognition of children who so often go unrecognized is a powerful motivator in their lives.”
