Each summer Comprehensive Therapy Center offers workshops designed to empower parents and caregivers as advocates for their children. Every session is free and open to the public. No reservation is required, but seating is limited. Please arrive prior to the start of the session to ensure a spot.
All programs take place on Thursdays from 9:00AM – 10:15AM
at Temple Emanuel 1715 Fulton St E, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

Here is the lineup for 2017:
June 29: Wonder Women of Grand Rapids
Meet three parents of special needs children as they share their stories of family life, schooling and beyond. The power trio are Celia Andrus, Josh’s mother; Kristina Donaldson, Daniel’s mother; and Helena Goldfarb, Charles’ mother. They tell stories that are unique but share a common purpose – allowing their children to be the best that is possible.
This power trio bring many skills: Celia is social media coordinator for ASK and the Golden Hat Foundation. Kristina works for the Michigan Children’s Special Health Care Services, and Helena brings years of experience as a clinical psychologist and national advocate for individuals on the Autism Spectrum.
July 6: Stress Busters
Join wellness expert Vicki Jansma to explore the science behind our stress reactions. Learn to develop healthier habits and self-care skills that will assist you in managing your own/your child’s reactions to everyday challenges. A social worker at Comprehensive Therapy Center, Vicki’s passion is caring for the caregivers.
July 13: We Have Ways to Make You Talk
Comprehensive Therapy Center’s speech-language pathologists bring experiences to practice language and speech skills. Make activities to use at home. Talk time for you with our professionals. Let’s talk about talking.
July 20: Touch and Go
Comprehensive Therapy Center’s Occupational Therapists have activities to improve sensory processing as well as fine and gross motor skills. Always a favorite these activities are fun ways to work motor and sensory skills into every day activities. Our occupational therapists have answers to your questions.
July 27: Untangle the Web Called Special Education
Got questions? Confused about the special education process? Concerned that things are changing? Laurie VanderPloeg, Director of Special Education for Kent ISD has the answers. She is a treasure in the Grand Rapids area at making the whole process make sense.
August 3: Decisions, Decisions
New to us is The Michigan Special Education Mediation Program. Executive Director Patti Peiffer shares information on the Program that helps students, parents, and educators make decisions that improves educational outcomes. Come learn with us.
